CFM: College & Undergraduate Libraries

College & Undergraduate Libraries, a peer-reviewed journal published by The Haworth Press, Inc., welcomes the submission of manuscripts.

Aiming to provide practical, informative articles addressing undergraduate services, operations, and concerns or issues of interest to busy college and undergraduate library staff, the journal welcomes manuscripts from all staff members as well as faculty and students. Current topics of particular interest include assessment/standards, organizational configuration, information literacy, the library as place, electronic reference, digitization of resources, intellectual property issues, plagiarism, and the roles of the library within the college or university.

Manuscript submission information is available at: http://www.haworthpress.com/journals/SIresults.asp?sku=j106. All manuscripts or proposals should be sent directly to the editor, Christopher Millson-Martula of Lynchburg College at millsonmartula@lynchburg.edu. Telephone contact is at 434/544-8399. In addition, the journal regularly publishes columns dealing with humor in the library, instructional issues, and the roles of the Internet and Web-based resources in college and undergraduate libraries. Opinion pieces addressing issues of current interest are also welcome. For additional information, please contact the editor.

Integrated Experiences: Compelling Content Combinations

Wikipedia defines “mash-up” as a Web site or Web application that seamlessly combines content from more than one source into an integrated experience. Since Internet librarians aim to do just that for their clients, it is a fitting theme for Information Today’s 10th Internet Librarian. This year’s conference focuses on the challenges as well as the leading-edge solutions for balancing content access and client demands for an integrated experience. If Internet librarians want to have an impact on their organizations and communities, they must create mash-ups. As the San Francisco Chronicle puts it, “Take a pinch of Yahoo or Google. Then stir in some census data, photographs or crime statistics. What you get is a mash-up.” Combining ingredients from different online sources to create hybrids is a hot Internet phenomenon, especially when map or demographic information and a variety of feeds are used.

-KP created a Refworks account for our group to share publications of interest and as a way for possible collaboration.
-We looked at RE's start for an ACRL panel session proposal.
-For our next meeting SS is asking for feedback on a short term grant proposal she is working on. She will try to distribute it before the meeting (it won't be long so will be easy to read).
