Publish Not Perish online tutorial

University of Colorado (CU) Libraries Launch "Publish Not Perish: The Art and Craft of Publishing in Scholarly Journals."

Publish Not Perish, http://www.publishnotperish.org , is a free online tutorial designed to introduce graduate students, junior faculty, and other potential authors to the mysterious world of scholarly publishing, from getting ideas and choosing a journal to submitting and revising a manuscript.

"Publish or perish" has been the standard marching order since the creation of the tenure system, and faculty and graduate students often must fall in step with it. The tutorial can help maximize chances of publication and minimize frustrations. Learn about the variables of scholarly publishing, how to control the ones you have influence over, and how to learn and grow from the ones you can't control. Publish Not Perish was created through a collaborative effort of the CU system libraries, with funding from the CU President's office. For more information and assistance, please contact any of the CU libraries:

Second Life and MnSCU

We have acquired a private island in Second Life. IT and ASA will jointly sponsor a series of pilots, particularly in instruction and student services. If you or your institution is interested in participating, please contact me. As a first step we will set up an account for you in our wiki community space so that we can begin collaborating. All are welcome.

For those who are interested in participating in the Second Life pilots or wanting to know more about virtual worlds, I encourage you to get started (if you have not done so already) in Second Life
(http://www.secondlife.com) with a free account.

To get started, we will be holding some meetings in Second Life beginning next week.
